Maggie Secara

Maggie Secara started out wanting to be an archaeologist. Then a reporter, then an international spy, a poet, an opera singer, a novelist, a historian. She ended up being a bit of each, earning a Masters in English and becoming involved with historical costume and improvisational theatre. When all those passions came together at once, she decided to be a novelist again, and so she did. Her short fiction has appeared in a variety of publications, including New Realm and Unsung Stories magazines, and she recently started work on a Victorian fantasy series. Maggie lives in Los Angeles, California, with one adoring husband, two goofy cats, four magical novels, and half a million English words to toy with.

I was at once swept away with Molly, the beautiful redhead with a taste for adventure. I turned the pages and sat faithfully by waiting for Molly to be rescued from her dull and boring life, having been all but sold off to a foppish man rumored to have killed his last wife. Then Dick Prentiss whisked into her world, dazzled her with the promise of adventure, and together they set sail on a privateering adventure the likes of which I never could have dreamed, but was oh so glad to have enjoyed through this book!Steamy scenes, swordplay, and drunken folly abound in Molly September. I laughed, I cried, and laughed some more. Maggie Secara set in place a fabulous world based on historical elements and places laced with fantastical adventures and heartening romance. Her book has quickly risen to my favorites shelf, where it shall remain, well worn for its many reads! If you enjoy adventure on the high seas, a little bit of romance, and a lot of fantastic characters in your books, then you simply must go pick up a copy of Molly September! And while you're at it, go say hello to Mrs. Secara, because anyone who can transport me ship-side on such a believable privateering journey deserves a personal hello along with the purchase of her wonderful novel!

This pirate adventure story begins in Port Royal, where we meet both Dickon Prentiss, charming street thief, and Molly September, a young lady of marriageable age whose prospects and fortune are being managed by her uncle, Sir Roger. Molly has the fiery attitude of a classic Maureen O'Hara character. She's also the daughter of a swashbuckling buccaneer she hardly knew, but that Dickon clearly did. The first part of the book has all the elements of a romance novel, then it transitions to a rousing adventure on the high seas, set in the Sir Henry Morgan era of buccaneers and freebooters in the Caribbean. Tension between the romance and the adventure is maintained to the very end of the novel. The style is quite readable, without excess verbiage, but still sets the stage lushly. Characters are distinct and distinctive. The details of the novel ring true, and chapters are named after dances or dance moves of the time. Recommended to readers looking for a good pirate escape with a strong female lead.
