Upon graduating, he entered a career in agribusiness in California's Central Valley. During that career, he attended the Harvard Business School, where he was selected for a program designed for young executives. His career took an abrupt turn in the late 1980's when he began a successful career owning and operating professional minor league baseball teams on the West Coast.John has two sons and two daughters. Having lost one of his daughters, Aimee, and his wife, Thalia, both to intense health struggles, his writing career took form as a combination of grief therapy and a newfound love of creative writing and poetry. It was during his memoir and creative non-fiction writing when he began a rich writing collaboration and friendship with his now wife and soulmate, Adina Lynn LeCompte.view less
