His research engages critical ethical questions at the intersection of religion, identity, and culture within the broader environmental humanities. Matthew’s dissertation examines the cultural implications of climate change denial in environmental imaginaries, with particular attention to the role of religion and race in shaping identity construction and maintenance on the American right. He is lead managing editor of the Berkeley Journal of Religion and Theology, and along with Devin Zuber and Rita Sherma, co-editor of Sustainable Societies, Religious Ethics, and Planetary Restoration: Visions for a Viable Future (Springer Nature, Forthcoming 2023).view less
