Sullivan was raised in a musical family where he learned to play multiple instruments at an early age. Hood began his career in the British Army, where he wrote plays as a hobby. Hood wrote The French Maid (1896) and Little Hans Andersen (1903), while Sullivan is best known for H.M.S. Pinafore (1878) and The Pirates of Penzance (1879).view less
