She grew up in Dallas, Texas, with a twin brother, and younger brothers who are also twins. (She loves to say that she has three twin brothers). She attended Abilene Christian College. She has lived in Costa Rica, where she taught school and in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where she taught for 15 years. In Arlington, she taught for 20 years.
