Her hobbies include reading; writing; planting flowers; spending time with family, friends, her sons (DJ and Rocky), her boyfriend (Jay) and his children (Emerald and Javon). Miss Kirkland is the oldest of six in her family. She has three sisters—Cindy, Darlene, Marilyn—and two brothers, Rhett and Aaron. In her free time, she enjoys going to the flea market, going to the movies, collecting unusual things, selling jewelry, and participating in the Cooper River Bridge Run in Charleston, South Carolina, every year with her sister Darlene.
