Charles and Rica Basel came back to the Lord after running for many years. The year was 1980 and the Lord had enough of them running. So though in different places they both rededicated their lives to Him and decided to find His plan for their lives. He led them to the place where they found each other and got married on March 21; 1981.Right after the wedding, which took place on the island of St. Thomas, USVI, they left and went to the island of Tortola the British Virgin Island. It was there they felt the need for a deeper walk with the Lord.
Returning to St. Thomas two years after being in Tortola; some friends invited them to a prayer meeting. It was there that they experienced God in A Way that they never knew possible. The HOLY SPIRIT showed up and everything changed. We found that not one of us was in control of that meeting other than the HOLY SPIRIT.
At that meeting, people were healed delivered and set free. There was so much love, that it could only come from our Lord. This changed our lives forever. For the next two years we met twice a day reading the bible and praying together. We had a regular Friday night prayer meeting where many were delivered from drugs and alcohol. It was from this prayer group the Salvation Navy was born.
During the years we have seen the hand of God move in a real way. We have been serving the Lord full time for these past years, walking by faith. People have told us that it was not possible to do what we do. We have seen the Lord provide food, gasoline and money when there was no possible way. The Lord has been very real to us.
We have traveled extensively throughout the islands working with the people who are forgotten by big ministries. These we call the “Forgotten People of the Caribbean.” We believe, in order to get someone to understand God’s love, we must show them by demonstration. We also believe that if you gave a man a fish you have fed him, but if you teach him to fish you can feed a village.
Capt. Buck and Rica, as they are known in the Caribbean, had their base in the island of Puerto Rico. Capt. Buck is a commercial pilot and also holds a United States Coast Guard Merchant Marine captain’s license. Rica is a native of the island of Grenada and was educated in Boston. They have been married for over 30 years with 5 children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
These last years, the Lord has changed our assignment and has allowed us to minister throughout the United States.view less
