As a large-scale event planner, fundraiser, marketing and public relations professional for leading nonprofits in the Boston area, I have worked closely with small and large companies for almost twenty years. I understand the business goals behind community outreach activities.
I have also served as an executive director and board president of historical nonprofits, or as a board member or volunteer. I understand the challenges they face as well.
It really is time for for-profits and nonprofits to forge a new relationship—one that is mutually strategic, respectful, and economically beneficial.
I am also the author of several books on historical subjects, the creator of historical walking trails, a public speaker, tour guide, and guest lecturer in academic settings. I am proud to say that my scholarly work on the eighteenth century essayist Judith Sargent Murray has been used by the authors David McCullough and Cokie Roberts, to name two.
As a public historian, I see the profound impact of “doing history” outside of the classroom. It’s led me to the deeply-held conviction that we all have a role to play in teaching and learning American history.
I am a native of Concord, Massachusetts, and like any good New Englander I have never strayed far from the Boston area. I am currently located on Boston’s North Shore, surrounded and inspired by many centuries of stories.view less
