In many ways, this indicated how he was regarded by himself and others during his time in the Royal Navy (1962-1989). However, others thought this did not detract from the significant achievements of his war career.Commander Nigel ‘Sharkey’ Ward DSC, AFC, RN came to prominence when he led 801 Naval Air Squadron during the Falklands War in 1982 from HMS Invincible. He flew over 60 combat missions and was credited with three air-to-air kills. His book contains his frank opinion on the decision making of several senior commanders during the war. He controversially questions whether, if followed, their actions may have caused Britain to lose the Falkland Islands.Ward retired from the Royal Navy in 1989 and moved to Granada. Here, he was heard by many in 2011, during an interview broadcast on radio with the son of the C-130 Hercules pilot, Ezequiel Martel, shot down by Ward in the battle.view less
