After winning several writing awards in high school, including the National Council of Teachers of English award for her children’s story “Winter”, she got practical, went off to college and graduate school, and got a “real” job. Even in college, though, you might find her reading “Winnie the Pooh” stories to a rapt audience of her dorm-mates before bed.
Her three sons gave her full access to children’s books again, and she has always enjoyed sharing the old classics and discovering new ones with them. She wrote “The Donut Dance” based on a little game her husband used to play with the boys when they were tussling. The game became a poem. The poem was illustrated by Grandpa. And here we are.
Illustrator Angelo Ricci (Grandpa) had a successful career as a businessman, but he, too, had a first love - art. Once “The Donut Dance” was written, Maggie sent it off to him to see if it might inspire him to dust off his paintbrushes.view less
