He played in east Texas swamps and often accompanied his mother on the T&P Railroad to visit his grandparents in Cisco. These activities created a life-long love of railroads and their histories. Wife, Sara D'Spain, was a student journalist and studied creative writing.
After creating and publishing "Practitioners Guide To Labor Arbitration," the D'Spains turned to their personal interests in railroads and history for their next writing venture and "Like A Bolt" was born. A follow-up, "Hard Water" is currently in production.
