Most of my holidays were spent at our cottage in the forest a half hours drive from the city. The forest soon became a place where I felt the most at home.
Since early age, books, wildlife, fishing, nature and archery have been a part of my life. When I was fourteen, I began to tie fishing flies. At that time, all educational material on the topic was in English. Since then, most of my interests and hobbies have been self taught through books, and most of the books in English. My interests have been many up though times, ranging from insects, nature, fly fishing and tying, archery, leatherwork and martial art.
I started my career in martial art in 1979, and I am still hanging in there. Today I have my 4 Dan black belt in Moo Duk Kwan Tae Kwon Do, Krav Maga and my own style called Hrafnisvegr/The way of the Raven and my own dojo.
In 1980 I was diagnosed with a rheumatic disease, Bechtrews syndrome. Instead of stopping me, it has made me work harder, stay in shape better, and be happy for what I can achieve. I was sentenced to a life in a wheelchair in -92, but to this day I have managed to keep that away. But all things have an end, and in -05 I was put on disability pension due to my pains.
Since 1988, archery has been a big part of my life. I started out with compound-bows as so many others, but in -90 i switched to traditional equipment, and have not looked back since. I make most of my equipment myself; arrows, quivers, belts, bags and more. In -90 i bought a longbow, the first of many. Today, i shoot longbows, hybrid longbows, and horse-bows. I have tried recurve- bows, but cannot find the rhythm with them.
In 1980 I began an education as a typographer. After finishing my education, I began working in a newspaper. I have always loved books, and my first book was begun in -90. I had it all in my head before writing, and I finished it in -92. It should take until 2007 before it was published in Norwegian. Now it is translated and rewritten into English as part of my current writings.
In -95, I moved with my wife and our two children to Denmark. My wife at the time was Danish and wanted to move back home.
In February of 2000 I was involved in a severe car crash, and was lucky enough to be able to walk away. The aftermath of the whiplash injury to my neck and head still hurts me, and the complications can sometimes be hard to live with. Loss of learning ability, short- and long-term memory, headaches and such. Anyone with a whiplash knows the list.
I was divorced from my Danish wife in 2001, and married again with Astrid, a Norwegian living in Denmark in 2003. Together we have a son, but in all we have eight children. In February of 2005 my family and I moved back to Norway. After moving around a bit, we found the farm were we currently live close to one of Scandinavia’s last and oldest wild forests at the border to Sweden. Here we have found a lifestyle of our own, trying to be as independent of the modern society as possible. We live in quiet peace with our surroundings and our animals, believing and living in the old ways. We have four dogs of different breeds and age, four cats, hens, duck and peacocks. And the whole forest as our neighbors.view less
