He received the White House Commission on Presidential Scholars' award for excellence in teaching in 1985. His science fiction short stories have been adapted by the TV series Tales from the Darkside and published in genre-specific magazines including Analog and Isaac Asimov's Science Fiction Magazine. His more traditional literary writing has been featured at Michigan State University's Michigan Writers' Series, and he has written over 500 pieces of nonfiction and investigative journalism.view less
