About this audiobook
The snark and instant chemistry of Better Than the Movies meets the indulgent summer fun and family hijinks of The Summer of Broken Rules in this compulsively readable rom-com from Alex Light, author of The Upside of Falling.
Jackie Myers is a fraud. Or she might be a genius—the jury’s still out.
The thing is, she secretly runs pleasebreakmyheart, a gone-viral account aimed at breaking hearts and ending relationships…. And she just used it to break up her insufferable eternal nemesis's picture-perfect relationship.
Wilson is the buttoned-up, type A assistant manager of her nightmares—but it turns out he’s also, apparently, a really great boyfriend.
So with her conscience (and paycheck) on the line, Jackie decides there’s only one thing to do: She’s going to help Wilson win his ex-girlfriend back. Which should be easy, considering Jackie hates him…right?
Alex Light
Alex Light grew up reading too many books and listening to too many Taylor Swift songs. Now she writes books that make people laugh (and sometimes cry). Alex began writing as a teen. She shared dozens of love stories online, which have now been read over 150 million times. Shockingly, she graduated with a BA in English literature, giving her the perfect excuse to read even more books when she wasn’t busy writing her own. Alex lives in Toronto, Canada, with her three furry friends. She’s an avid donut eater, sometimes baker, and lover of the frozen winter months.

This book follows a girl named Jackie who starts an advice Instagram account for relationships. One day when she responds to someone, she doesn’t realize nemesis’s now ex-girlfriend about how to break up with him. Realizing what she’s done, she decides to find a way to help win her back, but as the two of them get closer they start to fall for each other instead.
This was fun! It’s your average coming of age contemporary rom-com but it was a good time. The characters were great and I liked following Jackie’s journey throughout the story.
The love story between Jackie and Wilson was sweet. At first I found the book a bit slow moving but when things started happening between them, the plot picked up. Their development from enemies to lovers was well paced and Wilson is such a sweetheart. I love how he was always getting her twix bars because he knew they were her favourite or little things like that.
The sister dynamic was also fun! I love books with strong relationships between siblings. I love how close Jackie was with her sisters. While I do wish Jackie was a little more upset with one of her sisters over one of the reveals in this book, I still enjoyed their dynamic overall.
The area where this book fell flat for me was the third act conflict you could see coming from a mile away. I just felt a sense of dread knowing it was going to come down to Jackie not communicating certain things to certain people. While I don’t think it’s bad for books like this to be predictable, I don’t like sitting with this lingering dread for a situation that could so easily turn out better had it been communicated earlier on.
Overall this was a fun lighthearted read. I haven’t seen many people talking about it so I recommend picking it up. It isn’t anything new but it’s a fun time.
