About this audiobook

De oskyldiga gick rakt in som nr 1 pa New York Times topplista for skonlitteratur och lag pa listan i 15 veckor.

America has enemies--ruthless people that the police, the FBI, even the military can't stop. That's when the U.S. government calls on Will Robie, a stone cold hitman who never questions orders and always nails his target. But Will Robie may have just made the first--and last--mistake of his career . . . THE INNOCENTIt begins with a hit gone wrong. Robie is dispatched to eliminate a target unusually close to home in Washington, D.C. But something about this mission doesn't seem right to Robie, and he does the unthinkable. He refuses to kill. Now, Robie becomes a target himself and must escape from his own people.Fleeing the scene, Robie crosses paths with a wayward teenage girl, a fourteen-year-old runaway from a foster home. But she isn't an ordinary runaway-her parents were murdered, and her own life is in danger. Against all of his professional habits, Robie rescues her and finds he can't walk away. He needs to help her.Even worse, the more Robie learns about the girl, the more he's convinced she is at the center of a vast cover-up, one that may explain her parents' deaths and stretch to unimaginable levels of power. Now, Robie may have to step out of the shadows in order to save this girl's life . . . and perhaps his own.My ReviewI loved the character of Robie and Vance and can see them turning into a King and Maxwell. The plot was intriguing but a little confusing until you find out what is going on. I also liked Baldacci's writing and the short chapters. The ending was tied up nicely with a few surprises. I will definitely read the rest of the series and I would recommend Baldacci's books to those who love mystery thrillers with great characterization.

6 assassinations at 1:39. Shallow character. Hope it gets better.
The story plot did pick up and got rather interesting but then too quickly took a side step. Almost seemed like three disconnected stories.

Pretty good. A twist at the end was telegraphed the little romance with the woman in his building never rang true but otherwise the plot kept me engaged.

I have no idea how I read the rest of the Will Robie series before reading this first book in the series. Actually, I'm not sure I knew it was the first book in the series until I came on here to review it. I think I thought it was the second book in the series.Anyway, I've obviously read other books by this author and in this series, so I expected to like/enjoy this book. (Knowing that there are others in the series meant that the ending was somewhat known (if not the exact how). I liked the character of Julie. I also liked Vance. I liked learning how Robie started working with Blue Man (who gets another name later in the series). It was interesting to have to unravel the mystery of how all the people fit together along with the main characters (vs. knowing something the characters don't know). I did guess who the assassin was before Robie's character figured it out (though not by much).

I have no idea why I haven't read this book earlier, in any case it is a great introduction to a series that is new to me, which I will definitely continue reading. Will Robie is a killer who is actually 'employed' by a federal agency and yet does not appear in their books. This book introduces all the protagonists who will also appear again in the following books. Will has to kill a Saudi prince, which he supposedly manages without any problems. Back in the DC he finds out that someone is hunting him down. Who is behind it? All the signs look like he's being hunted by a federal agency. Who is the mole? During his 'escape' he meets Julie, a teenager who witnessed the murder of her parents and is now on the run and swore revenge. Will takes care of her. As he tries to solve both problems, he becomes more and more convinced that all the dead who pave the way have to deal with him. It's very varied and exciting.

The Innocent is a thriller from the beginning until the end. There is some blood and gore. There are many problems occurring, but all get solved one way or the other in the end. The storyline takes place today. The book gets five stars here because it was a good story, it was thrilling, the characters were believable, the situations were believable and descriptions were good. This book is highly recommended.

This is the first in the Will Robie series: The Innocent, an introduction, The Hit, The Target, The Guilty, and End Game. Will Robie is introduced as a secret government- op hit man. He is ordered to "eliminate a target" without question. Always following orders, Robie finds himself being ordered to take out a woman but is not told she has 2 children. When Robie stealthily enters the sleeping woman's bedroom with the silencer on the barrel of his gun, Robie finds his stone coldness begin to warm. He feels there's something wrong with this hit. Not taking the shot makes him, the new target! Robie, questing the authenticity of the orders does his own investigating. One lead, leads to another and he ends up in a relationship with an orphaned 14 year old girl who has seen her drugged out parents murdered. Witnessing life at its hardest, she is hardened and street savoy. Robie cannot abandon this girl who wants to find out who is responsible for the murder of her parents and Robie needs to find out the source of the corruption in the chain of command from whom he receives orders.....Enjoyed this book and of course, I want to see the soft side of Will Robie, ( although I know improbable for an assassin , he is the hero of the series and gives the writer and reader a baseline for personal growth).

The first installment in David Baldacci's Will Robie series is called The Innocent and it is a definite page-turner. Will Robie, a hitman employed by the US government to take out villains in a rather unbureaucratic fashion, is very good at his job. So far, he has completed every assignment that was given to him. But that changes when he denies to kill a mother with her two children present only to see them killed from a distance by a sniper while he is in the room. Not knowing what to make of that situation, Robie sets out to flee the scene, but not before rescuing the baby that has not been killed by the sniper. On his flight he takes a bus from Washington, D. C., to New York where he sees another hitman trying to kill a fourteen-year-old girl. Saving the girl in the last minute, Robie has to flee the scene yet again, his second flight on the same night. He takes the girl with him and as soon as they step off the bus, the bus explodes in a big ball of fire. The girl, Julie, is also fleeing a murder scene as she has just witnessed both her parents being killed. While this novel might not be read for the prose or to find a deeper meaning, it is definitely entertaining. So much so that it only took me a very short time to read through the more than 500 pages. I would definitely recommend this novel to lovers of tense thrillers and fast-paced action. A light but nonetheless highly enjoyable read. 5 stars.

This is my first visit with "Will Robie" and to be honest the first few chapters had me thinking maybe this book wasn't for me but I'm so glad I hung in there. Once I got past that, the story unfolded and had me hooked. I found "Will Robie" turned into someone human and enjoyed the unfolding story and his interaction with the characters around him. Trying not give anything way about the story. I'm looking forward to my next installment.

While I like spy/suspense thrillers I’m only giving this book a 3. I figured out the what/who pretty early on and I found that I had to force myself to finish. So it was a good book just not great I’m debating finishing the series

Synopsis: Will Robie is a contract killer for the government. One of his assignments doesn't seem kosher so when he refuses to fire, someone else takes the shot. Somehow this murder is tied into the murder of a husband and wife in front of their daughter. Now Robie and the girl are on the run, trying to stay alive while attempting to find out who ordered the killing and just how they are both involved.Review: Good story with lots of twists and turns. Makes me want to see these two teamed up, again.

This was a decent thriller that had some interesting action scenes throughout the novel but was also a little lacking in suspense as the bad guys were pretty easy to spot (not sure why super spy Will had such a problem with it though). The narrators as usual do an excellent job telling the story. I will probably give the next book in this series a try.

3.5 Stars for a fun read.

A fast-paced, cleverly plotted read with sympathetic characters. Ignore the snooty reviews on Amazon, this is exactly what you would expect from a 'churn-'em-out' writer like Baldacci, but still definitely worth a read. Will Robie - my brain alternated between Ro-bie and Robbie while reading - is a government assassin who gets set up when he baulks at killing a mother and her young son. Forming an unlikely alliance with an orphaned Mattie Ross type teen girl, Robie fights to keep them both alive while searching for the truth. Now I won't say that this is the most original story, and I figured out who the traitor was fairly early, but I liked Will and Julie, his young charge/partner in crime, didn't find the dialogue too bad, and got swiftly caught up in the action. After ploughing through Jeffrey Deaver's cliche-ridden male fantasies, this was actually quite refreshing. What more can you ask for?

When I was initially reading this novel, I really enjoyed it. I love Baldacci's style of writing and I love his male protagonists; they just seem to embody the strong-but-silent type that have "deep pain in their souls". The storyline itself was incredibly complex with a whole slew of characters to keep track of. Not only is Will Robie a badass fighter, he is also quite intelligent and a deep thinker; I like that he isn't just one thing and that his intelligence is based on great observational skills rather than just "being smart". The female characters in this novel were a great addition and really helped give the story some variety. By the time I had gotten to the middle of the novel, I knew who the "enemy" was - but there were still plenty of surprises that I could never have anticipated. One negative feature that I will mention is that the tying-in of the girl's story with Robie's was not done as effectively as I had hoped. It seemed a bit ... messy and just thrown together last minute in comparison to the intricate connections of the rest of the story. This was definitely a good read but I definitely liked The Memory Man better. Because of this one negative feature, I am a bit reluctant to continue on with this series; I like clean explanations that make a lot of sense. But either way, this was a really good novel and worth giving a read!

What an excellent start to a series!! Will Robie is a government assassin, and he's very good at his job. Suddenly he's the target and is caught up in a very dangerous cat and mouse game. No one is safe after talking to him and the answers are few and far between. Enter a 14 year old girl who seems to also be a target in the same game and the questions multiply. This book kept me guessing with every page, I literally couldn't put it down! Very fast paced, excellently tight writing, great descriptions without being overly verbose, all in all, excellent work. Continuing the series is not even a question, Baldacci is now on my list of must read authors.

This is a typical--meaning highly enjoyable--outing from Baldacci that introduces a worthy new series character. There is some telegraphed stuff in there where the plot is concerned, but Baldacci is terrific at creating characters and this one is not lacking in that department in any way, shape or form.

This is the best action, suspense, mystery type book I've read in I don't know when. I'm not well-educated on the ins and outs of being a government hit man, governments or government agencies, but it was all very believable to me. Also, it has so many layers and twists. Some authors would have made the story much simpler. When I began to think the plot was winding down, a whole new piece would enter. Can't wait to find out what happens to Robie next.

Clasic US-centric patriotic crap, though not as bad as some others. What saved the book is that Mr Baldacci can certainly spin a riveting yarn.

The first Will Robie book in a series--his job is to kill people for the US Govt...until he meets a 14 year old girl. The plot is a little outlandish and unbelievable, but it's a fun read as they two tumble all around Washington DC dodging bullets and trying to solve a crime. There are a lot of characters and keeping them straight is a chore, some times. Suspense permeates -- the solution isn't readily available until the last few minutes of the listen, when a new character is introduced and the listener goes:"Oh...now, I understand."

This book started out really choppy, the sentences were choppy and didn't flow well. But then it got better. It's a typical David Baldacci book, good. There were all kinds of twists and turns and I had no clue who was behind everything and why it was happening until the very end. If you want a quick read with some action and suspense you can't go wrong with Baldacci. Pick this one up.

Good character development for the first novel in the series. There were a lot of characters to follow but in the end each one of them came together nicely. The only character that was a bit harder to understand was the daughter, Julie. She had had a difficult life with her drug using parents but she adored them anyway. She wasn't as believable as a 14 year old. She was just TOO smart and forgiving for a teen. All in all, I would have to say it was an excellent read.

Another fast paced thriller from David Baldacci! This book was really exciting, with lots of danger and plot twists and turns. I really enjoyed this and will definitely move on to the next book.

We are supposed to meet Will Robe for the first time in this book but it's my fourth book, having read the later ones first. I'd have to say that like a good bottle of wine, Robie improves with age; or maybe I've just read one too many of his books in too short a time. Be that as it may, I felt that Baldacci belabored the point and it was a relief when the book was over. Julie was the only refreshing character in the book. Good book to read on a rainy day when there's nothing better to do.

Meet Will Robie - his job is to kill people. But he is not a criminal - he is an assassin for the government of the United States. And he never asks questions - an order is to be followed. Until he is sent to kill a woman and he finds her with children and an apartment that does not match anything that he expects. He decides not to take the shot until he does some checks and someone takes it for him. And he becomes a fugitive from his own people. And while he is trying to escape from them, he starts uncovering the truth. If you are reading the book you expect the high level corruption that will be uncovered. The assassin with the golden hard is an old story and there is not much to make it different from similar stories. And yes, Baldacci manages to find a way - partially by building both the character of Will Robie (who goes by Robie) as a real person, partially by adding a diverse supporting cast - Julie starts as a victim and proves to be anything but, the special agent assigned to the cases manages to see what Robie sees in the world and the Blue Man ends up being an unexpected ally (despite the name). And of course, it is Baldacci - he manages to add a plot after a plot without making it too complex; he puts inside of a single novel more stories than some other authors use to write a whole series. It is not a perfect novel. It is not a literary novel. But when you need a thriller, there are worse books to find. And there aren't too many authors working today that has the storytelling talent of Baldacci. Time to read more of the books about Will Robie.

Assassin Will Robie is back from two assignments to eliminate the enemies of America abroad. He doesn't need to know why they are being targeted...he just pulls the trigger. When he sees a small child in the bed of a woman he's been ordered to kill, he hesitates. Another shooter kills the woman and child as Robie questions his handler. What happens next sets an intricate story into motion.

Robie decides to get away by taking a nearby bus. Along comes a 14-year-old girl, followed by a man whom Will recognizes as someone just like himself. Robie again goes against all his training and helps the teenager. Past actions are catching up with him, and lots of strange coincidences are placing him and the girl in deadly danger.

I really enjoy political intrigue and The Innocent has plenty of it to go around. If you pay attention to the details, the author gives you lots of clues along the way to figure who the bad guys are, but the way the final reveal comes about is surprising and keeps things interesting. This is the first book in a five book series and I will definitely read the others. I really liked the character and would like to see what happens to him in the future.

I felt that this was not Baldacci's best. For me, it was too predictable and the ending was just a jumble.
