- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5The story, Old Man, was originally part of the book, The Wild Palms, and is frequently presented as a stand alone story. The story is set during the Great Mississippi River Flood of 1927. Faulkner’s reading communicates the chaotic wildness of the flood and paradoxically its beauty. This recording is paired with his Nobel Prize Speech and a short reading from A Fable. These are great recordings of one of the world’s greatest authors.
