- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5This brief retelling of an 1860 expedition to cross Australia from Melbourne to the northern sea is interesting and really too brief. Much more detail could be included but in any case the author maintains a neutral almost laconic attitude toward these explorers. Perhaps Aussies know all about this trek and need little more information about it. So many expeditions in the 1800's were an expression of a kind of boundless optimism and enthusiasm - much like climbing mountains -or today's X Games. I enjoyed this book and it makes me want to know more about the subject.
