E. Nesbit
E. Nesbit (1858–1924) began writing for young adults after a successful career in magazines. Using her own unconventional childhood as a jumping-off point, she published novels that combined reality, fantasy, and humor. Expanded from a series of articles in the Strand Magazine, Five Children and It was published as a novel in 1902 and is the first in a trilogy that includes The Phoenix and the Carpet and The Story of the Amulet. Together with her husband, Nesbit was a founding member of the socialist Fabian Society, and her home became a hub for some of the greatest authors and thinkers of the time, including George Bernard Shaw and H. G. Wells.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5It really is a good read if you are or aren't into classic books. Characters are easy to love and there are quite fascinating adventures to embark with the beloved railway children. If you want to see a more visual rep there is a movie out. My only complaint, hence the four stars, was the ending. It was a mixture of agreement and infuriation.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Wonderful book! I had to read it for school and I thought I would not like it. It sounded to childish, but I loved it.
Annabelle -12 - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I totally enjoyed this well written story of the three childrens adventures in a rural English town with an active railway near their house. Lots of 1905 English values with children having many adventures on their own. I think some children would like it as well as adults who enjoy childrens literature.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5A very sweet, cozy story, with just a pinch of the stuff fairytales are made of sprinkled throughout it. Cleverly yet simply written, and quite wholesome. I listened to it while knitting a frog.
Concerning the audio: There's a bit of a buzzing in the background, but I hardly noticed it after a while. The girl who reads it does a very good job, and her voice suits the story perfectly.1 person found this helpful
