About this audiobook

Things I’ll Never Forget is the story of a young high school graduate in 1965 who faces being drafted into the Army or volunteering for the Marine Corps. These are his memories of funny times, disgusting times and deadly times. The author kept a journal for an entire year; therefore many of the dates, times and places are accurate. The rest is based on memories that are forever tattooed on his brain. This is not a pro-war book, nor is it anti-war. It is the true story of what the Marine Corps was like in the late 1960’s, when the country had a draft and five hundred thousand Americans were serving one year tours in battle-torn South East Asia. If you served in Viet Nam you will want to compare your experience with the author’s. If you know someone who went to Viet Nam, you will want to read for yourself what it was like. If you lost a loved one or friend in the war, you will want to read this and share it with others.

Dixon tells you how Vietnam era was from boot camp to leaving war. Funny at times, heartbreaking at times, always an honest telling of what it was like to be in Vietnam.

A well written account of one man's 13 months of hell in Viet Nam. I think it should be mandatory reading in every High School.

I thought this was an absolutely fantastic insight into what these poor young men were put through in order to keep the futile war machine rolling. Dixon tells his story perfectly. There were times I laughed along with him. Times when I was shocked to the core. It's commendable to Dixon to tell the story of his close comrades, rather than us simply seeing them as a statistic. 5*

This book had 5 stars but nothing happens until chapter 32. And even then wasn’t very interesting ?

Excellently written and narrated. It's raw and riveting. I felt like Jiminy Cricket On James Dixon's shoulder along for that ride. I feel I have a little more respect for our fallen for it. And those who came back.

I have read a few books about the Vietnam War but this book is the best. If you want to know how it really felt to be a recruit in the marine corps in the sixties, read this book. If you want to feel how it is to be a marine front-line troop in the Vietnam War, read this book. Honest, engaging, humorous at times, and real.

Great book , highly recommend reading . Great for anyone who remembers that period in history and if you don’t it’s a great education for the younger generations on what they went through in the Vietnam war

The best first-account of a Marine’s journey through the Viet Nam war. Dixon led me through his tour as if I were there right at his side. He also defined many terms and other things that I’d never known, and I have read hundreds of accounts about this war. I highly recommend everybody to read this account.
