This book was a slow read for me. I dreaded finishing it, but I was determined. The characters were not well developed, and I cared little for any of them. I believe the main character was meant to be tough and determined but seemed more bullheaded and stupid, moving from one traumatic event to the next. The plot is like àn overcooked stew -- yucky.

Very interesting to see how the war even the Cold War can change people to do things they never thought was possible. Even though this is fiction, some of what’s happing now resembles what is in this book.
