About this audiobook

As the Nazis march toward Paris in 1940, American ballerina Lucie Girard buys her favorite English-language bookstore to allow the Jewish owners to escape. Lucie struggles to run Green Leaf Books due to oppressive German laws and harsh conditions, but she finds a way to aid the resistance by passing secret messages between the pages of her books.

Widower Paul Aubrey wants nothing more than to return to the States with his little girl, but the US Army convinces him to keep his factory running and obtain military information from his German customers. As the war rages on, Paul offers his own resistance by sabotaging his product and hiding British airmen in his factory. After they meet in the bookstore, Paul and Lucie are drawn to each other, but she rejects him when she discovers he sells to the Germans. And for Paul to win her trust would mean betraying his mission.

Master of WWII-era fiction Sarah Sundin invites you onto the streets of occupied Paris to discover whether love or duty will prevail.

Just wonderful. A book full of surprises and a great ending.

The plot was serviceable, and the character development was superficial but adequate. Not sure why this is tagged as Christian fiction other than there are church scenes and some mention of God. Religion is really not involved in any meaningful way, which is fine. The reader was good but mispronounced many French words, which was jarring if you know French.

I mostly loved it. It kinda seems to go on and on at the end but it still is a great read. The ending was a bit gushy. Endless happy lovey gush. But I’m an escapist reader and so I want happy endings. Maybe just not so err happy. Anyways, loved the ballet twist and how she used that to Lucy’s advantage, the stories of Josie, the way Paul ran his business and got along with his foreman. The narrator was mostly excellent. Again a bit too sweetsie at times but still very well done!

Sarah Sundin's books are always well written. It was great to meet up again with characters from 'When Twilight Breaks', as well as see other aspects of how private characters in France might have dealt with the Nazi invasion.

Audio sadly had some catches. Possibly a problem with the Scribd app though.

A wonderful story about a fascinating, yet horrid time in history.

I listened to the audiobook version. It was read so fast at times that it felt rushed. All the accent changes were well done.
