This is a well-written book on the life of Edgar Allen Poe. I liked this book because it incorporates real portraits from this time period, and the author also provided captions under the picture describing what the image was. Such as a picture of one of Edgar Allen Poe’s lovers, and under the picture was a small description of who she was and where they met. I also liked this book, because the author provided a timeline in the back with important times for Poe’s life, such as in in 1830 when he entered the U.S. military academy at West Point. I found this to be helpful, because this was longer book. I also liked this book, because it featured writings from Poe on almost every page. Such as the couplet poem he wrote in 1847 just after his wife had passed away. The couplet reads, “deep in the Earth my love is lying and I must weep alone.”The main message of this book was to inform the reader of the life of Edgar Allen Poe.
