This book favors the writing style of Tina McElroy Ansa with it's spirits and humor. She is a gifted writer with profound messages in simple tales, using old adages, sayings, common sense and astute observations about people and human nature in general. The story was filled with hilarious commentary. I liked the message she conveyed that the spirits or our ancestors are partly responsible for putting us on the right path and are part of our decision making. While the novel was slower at some places than I would have liked, but overall, it was an enjoyable read.

For me the book was about not letting the past have to much influence on your present. It reminds us to learn from the past but not to wallow in it and that forgiving and moving on may be the right attitude for life. The book was not very good. However, the message was great.
