- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5As always very well written by Ibn e Insha and well narrated by Bahalim.
Ibn e Insha must have been overly impressed by the Chini to have described the people and the land in such a glorious manner.
What is presented as the simplicity and वतन परस्ती of the चीनी people is actually a reflection of their exploitation and repression by their own leaders and the कॉम्युनिस्ट पार्टी। People are by nature self serving. Patriotism and frugality is usually forced or created through propaganda.
An example of Insha’s excessive belief in the चीनी people is his description of the long march. WhaT was a retreat which killed more than 90% of the participants is presented as a triumph. What was a civil war is presented as a fight for independence. Mai and the surkh fauj were guilty of torture and exploitation of their own people. But Insha has completely adopted the चीनी version of events and aligned himself with the चीनी people - just like his adopted country has.
Nevertheless the book brings out the way of the land and its people. A very readable book.
