Best smart BBQs 2024: gas, charcoal and more

Barbecuing in some form or another may have been around since our caveman ancestors discovered fire but that doesn't mean grills haven't evolved over the ages. 

From slow-cooking entire animals on spits to hotly contested pitmaster championships, the world's love affair with the humble Barbie shows no sign of dying down. Since the birth of charcoal kettle BBQs in the early 50s, the scene has expanded to include gas-powered models, dual-fuel wonders and electric indoor grills.

In the Smart age, BBQ grills are finally getting the hi-tech treatment, transmitting details like internal temperature over Wi-Fi so you can cook remotely if you wish. Some are also fitted with self-cleaning modes making post-feast cleaning up less of an ordeal, which can only be good news whatever kind of barbecuer you happen to be.
