Jakob Metelka (b.1986) is a Czech composer, pianist, and teacher with two publications already under his belt from Bärenreiter. Quirky title fonts and three large black-and-white illustrations adds individuality to the overall presentation, and audio recordings of the 15 pieces can be found on YouTube. Although subtitled as ‘Modern Piano Nocturnes’, not all these Grade 5-7 pieces (such as ‘The Storm’, or ‘The Kobold’) reflect the gentle character typically associated with the genre, and the plentiful fingering suggestions hint at some tricky manoeuvrings.
