Marked 'Confidential – not for publication until 24th April 1969,' this is the cover of the press pack issued by British Leyland for the new Austin Maxi. Lord Stokes wrote in his introduction: 'It was not difficult for us to decide upon the name Maxi for our new motor car, because we believe that it will create the same kind of revolution in the field of middleclass family motor cars as did the Mini in the realm of small cars. We believe that the formula which we have created for this new car has far more relevance to the solution of the problems of the British family motorist with his increased affluence and mobility than some of the new formulae for the seventies emerging from the stables of our competitors.'
