BLOWGUNS, or more correctly blowpipes are the oldest types of air guns known to man and the theory is that this weapon was developed simultaneously in different parts of the world. The concept of the blowgun eventually led to the birth of early air guns. The development of firearms is quite well documented but no-one knows for sure when the first air rifles appeared because not much has been written about them.

The earliest recorded reference to an air gun inventor mentions the name of a Mr. Guter of the city of Nuremburg in Germany who apparently lived between 1430 and 1560. Historical evidence reveals that air guns had become known throughout central Europe by the late 1500s.
