Zendaya’s arrival on the steps of New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art was one of the most eagerly anticipated moments of the night

The title of The Costume Institute’s spring exhibition at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art is Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion. And this year’s Met Gala did just that, presenting A-list celebrities in an array of breathtakingly elegant and avant-garde gowns showcasing the very best of haute couture.

At the annual style extravaganza, which traditionally takes place on the first Monday in May, the event’s co-hosts Jennifer Lopez and Zendaya modelled intricate hand-sewn dresses that took fashion commentators’ breath away.

Zendaya’s showstopping arrival on the museum’s steps was one of the most eagerly anticipated moments of the night, with the actress displaying her impeccable taste in custom Maison Margiela Couture.

Working with her stylist Law Roach, she accessorised her blue-and-green dress with a green velvet feathered headpiece.

DRESSED TO IMPRESS

The 27-year-old Challengers star later changed into another eye-catching gown – an all-black ensemble by John Galliano from Givenchy’s spring/summer 1996 couture collection, paired with a blooming headpiece of colourful flowers.
