FOR DECADES, PIALLIGO HAS been home to those seeking a pocket of country living in the city. Most of the action in this rural suburb on the outskirts of Canberra is centred around Beltana Road, its main drag, which is dotted with garden centres, nurseries and orchards. Beltana Road also enchants with cafes, galleries, gift shops, great eats and the occasional alpaca or wandering colony of peafowl. The precinct is full of surprises. More recently, delicious temptations have been added to the mix: an artisan food emporium, French pâtisserie, spit-roasting shack and fine diner have collectively raised the culinary bar.
