It’s hard to believe that it’s 15 years since the X351 XJ was launched at the Saatchi gallery in London. A larger take on the same school of design as the XF, it attracted criticism when new for being overweight and less… flowing of line that its predecessors. But it’s still unmistakably a Jaguar, and used prices are now more tempting than ever before.

The very earliest high mileage diesels are now starting to be found for as little as £4,000, though £5,000-6,000 is more likely to net you an example you might want to buy. If you have £10,000 you can take your pick of good examples with petrol or diesel engines.
