Look closely at the packaging of any device and it’ll show you where it was made. All manufacturers must include this information by law, but retailers don’t have to. This is why Amazon (or any other online retailer) has never had to add a ‘Country of origin’ category to its product listings on any of its sites worldwide, with the exception of one country – as we’ll come to.

This lack of information frustrates shoppers eager not to buy products made in certain countries, whether for environmental reasons or to avoid supporting regimes that are hostile to the UK or don’t respect human rights.
