THE TIES THAT BIND

Driving yourself around Namibia is one of the most accessible family adventures on the African continent. At least that's what I've been telling people for the last 25 years. So, I thought it was about time to take my own advice, by plotting a 2,500km route, and recruiting my 12-year-old daughter as a navigator. Our local shop is about as far as we normally drive together, so this would be a 14-day voyage of bonding and self-discovery — the ultimate ‘Take your kid to work’ day.

I'll admit, this wasn't our first rodeo; we had watched dawn breaking across the mirror-calm lagoons of the Okavango Delta, and the sun set over the Maasai Mara.
