OWING TO AN unexpected change in circumstances, I found myself made redundant from my current job. Fortunately, I was able to find another and even scheduled a couple of weeks’ break while jobless, which coincided with the Easter holidays.

So I approached Mrs Lugo and proposed an early family holiday – she didn't take much convincing. Our long wet winter hadn't shown many signs of spring, so some extra sun was welcomed. Next came where to go. “What about Tenerife?” The reply was “sounds good”.

Neither of usfamous Loro Parque Zoo for as long as I can remember. As quick as a flash, I booked the holiday and then came the question to Mrs Lugo: “Do you fancy a zoo trip while we are on hols?” Back came her response: “It doesn't matter where we go, you always find something bird-related – well go on then.” So we booked our visit.
