Twit-twoo’s there?
I RECENTLY met a property developer who has converted some disused agricultural barns on the Duke of Bedford’s farmland [at Millbrook, Bedfordshire],’ relates Lisa Proffitt of Michael Graham. ‘On day one of the project, they heard noises and thought the barns could be haunted. Later, an ecologist there for the survey and to supervise the roof-tile removal spotted barn-owl pellets and, subsequently, four barn owl chicks were discovered living in a canoe in the rafters.’
Sadly, the story does not end well. The developer contacted a local barn-owl protection group and offered to take the chicks home to nurse them, but was advised against moving them in case their parents returned. They fed them twice a day,).
