The project Opal Imaginary is an ongoing exploration of the extractive landscapes of the opal-mining industry and its embedded identities and emotional-cultural histories across time. It takes place in South West Queensland and developed out of my past experiences of living in a mining community in the Pilbara, as well as my decades-long friendship with Ron, a Mardigan man on whose Country much of this research took place.
