FAST FLEET JAMIE KING FAST FORD'S ST170
Last month we introduced project Save the ST170 – our homage to the unsung and often overlooked firstgeneration fast Focus. Our reason for choosing the ST170 was simple; they are fast disappearing from UK roads. Whether they have succumbed to dreaded rust, failed an MoT, or just been pulled apart so they can donate their engines to retro and classic Ford projects, the once-popular Focus ST170 is now a rare sight on British roads. In fact, fewer than 1,800 are currently registered in the UK – that makes them a rarer sight than the Mk2 Focus RS, despite nearly three times as many being sold in the UK!
By teaming up with Machine Mart, we wanted to showcase how enthusiastic DIY mechanics, like you, can take on a project like this at home. Armed with a selection of quality but affordable tools and equipment that any competent DIYer can use, we set about saving an ST170.
You can read all about the car we found – and what it was like after we've cleaned it up and thoroughly inspected it – in the last issue. But this month, the spanners really started twirling. With the help of friends at Ford Parts R
