MITTEN IN THE MACHINE

Truck of the Year, while logistically complex, is generally the least chaotic of MotorTrend’s various Of The Year competitions. SUV and Car of the Year are multimarque madness-fests, with editors flapping around like inebriated butterflies to drive a gaggle of competitors. TOTY has far fewer entrants, and although it involves more driving of each—empty, loaded, heavy trailer, on-road and off—it’s also calmer, running like a well-oiled machine.

Which is why, for 2024, we decided to throw a wrench—or perhaps we should say a mitten—into the works.

For years, we’ve run TOTY not also maintains an office in metro Detroit, and we thought it might make things interesting if we moved TOTY to the Wolverine State.
