BA FANTASY

Baseball America kicks off fantasy season with its second annual dynasty startup draft, featuring many of the biggest names in the industry. Our league is 12 teams with standard 5x5 roto scoring and positions, but with a BA twist: Each team must draft at least five prospects (marked in red). Turn the page for strategy and analysis from each manager.

Participants in the second annual Baseball America dynasty startup mock draft shared their thoughts on 12-team roto strategy and provided analysis of notable picks. Draft position refers to selection order in the first round. This was a serpentine draft in which the order reversed in even-numbered rounds. Each manager’s first six picks are listed—encompassing the first 72 picks of the draft—to show each team’s foundation. Top 100 Prospects are indicated with parentheses. The league scoring is standard 5x5 roto, with OBP, HR, RBI, SB and R as hitting categories and W, ERA, SV, WHIP and SO as pitching categories.

First six picks: OF Ronald Acuña Jr., 3B Jose Ramirez, SP Corbin Burnes, SP Kevin Gausman, SP Tyler Glasnow, OF Kyle Schwarber

In the year of our lord Acuña, my rule of thumb is that in any league where you’re lucky enough to get the best player, you have to go all-in to avoid a missed opportunity. There has never been a bigger projection gap between the No. 1 player and the next best player.

While we haven’t yet seen an uninterrupted Lewis season, he is capable of crazy numbers if he can stay on the field. In his brief MLB career, he has hit .307 with home run and RBI totals that scale to 35 and 100 at 150 games. Lewis hits the ball hard
