TOP 100 PROSPECTS

About the Top 100 Prospects

◼ Players qualify for the ranking if they have 130 or fewer major league at-bats or 50 or fewer major league innings in their career. Major league service time is not considered.

◼ Each player’s listed age is his baseball age in 2024.

◼ The estimated time of arrival, or ETA, is the season when the player is projected to reach the big leagues, if only for a small portion of it.

◼ The scouting grades are projected future grades on the 20-80 scale, where 50 is average. Position players are assessed for their ability to hit for average, power, speed, fielding and throwing arm. Pitchers are graded on the quality of their fastball, curveball, slider, changeup and control.

1. JACKSON HOLLIDAY

ORIOLES, SS

Age: 20. ETA: 2024.

Average exit velocity: 91 mph.

HIT: 70. | POW: 55. | RUN: 60. | FLD: 55. | ARM: 50.

Other elite prospects have more power, but Holliday is a highly advanced hitter. He will make an impact defensively as well, though his arm may play best at second base. The Orioles have seen Adley Rutschman and Gunnar Henderson quickly become team leaders. Holliday is close to joining them.

2. JACKSON CHOURIO

BREWERS, OF

Age: 20. ETA: 2024.

Average exit velocity: 91 mph.

HIT: 60. | POW: 70. | RUN: 70. | FLD: 60. | ARM: 45.

The Brewers’ eight-year, $82 million deal with Chourio only reinforces what scouts have seen the past two years. He’s a cornerstone for Milwaukee for at least the next decade as a center fielder with power and speed.

3. JUNIOR CAMINERO

RAYS, 3B

Age: 20. ETA: 2024.

Average exit velocity: 92 mph.

HIT: 55. | POW: 80. | RUN: 55. | FLD: 50. | ARM: 60.

Caminero rocketed from High-A to the majors in 2023 and should spend much of 2024 in the Rays’ lineup. He blasted 31 home runs in the minor leagues last season and has exceptional power and bat speed. Caminero has shown a more advanced hit tool than expected as well.

4. EVAN CARTER

RANGERS, OF

Age: 21. ETA: 2024.

Average exit velocity: 86 mph.

HIT: 65. | POW: 50. | RUN: 80. | FLD: 60. | ARM: 50.

It’s hard to have a more storybook career than the one Carter has produced to date. From anonymous amateur to World Series star, the 2020 second-rounder has the skills to become a force in Arlington for a long time.

5. WYATT LANGFORD

RANGERS, OF

Age: 22. ETA: 2024.

Average exit velocity: 90 mph.

HIT: 60. | POW: 70. | RUN: 50. | FLD: 45. | ARM: 45.

Drafted fourth overall last July, Langford had one of the best pro debuts of any 2023 draftee. He bullied his way through the minor leagues, finishing at Triple-A before earning a spot on Texas’ postseason taxi squad. Langford and Evan Carter give the Rangers an enviable one-two prospect punch.

6. DYLAN CREWS

NATIONALS, OF

Age: 22. ETA: 2024.

Average exit velocity: 93 mph

HIT: 65. | POW: 65. | RUN: 55. | FLD: 55. | ARM: 60.

Crews came into 2023 viewed as the best hitter in the draft. He hit .426/.567/.713 and helped lead LSU to a College World Series title. When the Nationals drafted him No. 2 overall, he immediately became the focal point of the organization’s rebuild. He should hit for average, power and play solid outfield defense.

7. JORDAN LAWLAR

D-BACKS, SS

Age: 21. ETA: 2024.

Average exit velocity: 89 mph.

HIT: 60. | POW: 55. | RUN: 70. | FLD: 55. | ARM: 60.

Lawlar hit the ball harder in 2023 and cleaned up his defensive play at shortstop, leading to a September callup. He produced a .966 OPS in his final 70 minor league games and has a chance to bring his power-speed mix to MLB in 2024 as one of the game’s youngest regulars.

8. ETHAN SALAS

PADRES, C

Age: 18. ETA: 2026.

Average exit velocity: 86 mph.

HIT: 60. | POW: 60. | RUN: 45. | FLD: 70. | ARM: 60.

Salas made his pro debut a few days shy of his 17th birthday and finished the season in the Double-A Texas League. Few prospects have as much potential on both sides of the ball as the 18-year-old Salas, who could be a middle-order hitter who also shines defensively at catcher.

9. PAUL SKENES

PIRATES, RHP

Age: 22. ETA: 2024.

Average fastball velocity: 98 mph.

FB: 70. | SL: 70. | CHG: 60. | CTL: 60

The No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 draft was an easy choice for the top spot in the Pirates’ system and has one of the highest ceilings of any pitching prospect. There might be a few tweaks required, but Skenes has the stuff and pedigree to lead Pittsburgh’s next generation.

10. SAMUEL BASALLO

ORIOLES, C

Age: 19. ETA: 2025.

Average exit velocity: 90 mph.

While we haven’t yet seen an uninterrupted Lewis season, he is capable of crazy numbers if he can stay on the field. In his brief MLB career, he has hit .307 with home run and RBI totals that scale to 35 and 100 at 150 games. Lewis hits the ball hard
