Seasoned sailors will know that bronze has long been associated with boats, thanks to the fact that it’s resistant to corrosion, relatively easy to work with and reliably tough. But during the past century, stainless steel has largely taken over as the default for making nautical hardware, except in those cases where aesthetics are considered as important as performance - because nothing patinates quite like bronze.
