WHEN THE SITUATION calls for putting baits in cover or enticing big-bass bites, Greg Hackney is one of the best.

Some say he might even be the best jig fisherman on the Bassmaster Elite Series.

But what many don’t realize is the jig only accounts for about 25% of the big fish he catches.

“I’ve caught more 10-plus-pound bass in tournaments on creature baits and don’t recall catching any on a jig,” says the Louisiana veteran who is an 18-time Bassmaster Classic qualifier and the 2014 Bassmaster Angler of Year. “The jig accounts for my 3- to 6-pounders. But when around giants, I’m rigging up a creature bait.”
