There’s lots of hugely talented superminis out there right now – and while the original 208 isn’t the leader of the pack, it’s still very good, cheap to run and better value than its main rivals.

The Mk1 went on sale here in 2012 and was available with a choice of five petrol and two diesel engines and in three- or five-door body styles, so there were plenty of options. What’s more, with trim specs that started at very basic and extended to rather plush, there was a model in the range to suit all pockets.
