Who was Stephen Lawrence? Foundation calls for societal transformation 31 years on from murder

Stephen Lawrence Day, marked each year on April 22, honours the life and legacy of Stephen Lawrence.

The black teenager was murdered 31 years ago in what became a watershed moment in race relations.

However, there’s still a long way to go. 

This year, the Stephen Lawrence Foundation urges people to commit to one positive action to support young people from marginalised communities. 

“Our aim this year is to inspire societal transformation by empowering the next generation with knowledge that transcends traditional educational paradigms,” organisers said on X, formerly Twitter, alongside the hashtag #poweroflearning24.
