“Meeting Online Gave Us A New Lease On Life”

THEY HAD A combined age of 155 years when they took the plunge into internet dating. Now married, 85 and 86-year-old Gill Smith Riley and John Riley live in York.

“So many people are thrilled to hear how we met!” smiles Gill. “One time, I was chatting to staff in a cafe. When she heard we had just been to get John’s wedding ring for me resized, the lady manager insisted our bill was on the house!”.

It’s a far cry from the lonely days when Gill and John were widowed after 47 and nearly 50 years. John, a retired chaplain for the Railway Mission, was in “a black hole” when a friend told him about a Christian dating site.

Meanwhile, Gill was also feeling down and researching Christian dating sites.
