IN 1939 World War 2 broke out in Europe, and over the next six years, there was widespread destruction of many important historical and cultural buildings. In the same year that the war ended, an agency of the United Nations (UN) was formed with the aim of building peace through education, science and culture. It is called Unesco.
WHAT DOES UNESCO DO?
Unesco is the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization. When it was established after the war, Unesco defined its purpose as building the defences of peace in the minds of men and women.
Unesco is able to achieve this by helping their 195 member countries work together through providing education
