Surprises are unveiled as new Rheidol museum opens

ON the same day that its 2024 daily operating season commenced, the Vale of Rheidol Railway officially opened a new museum space in the GWR locomotive shed – with some exhibits having been moved in during the days before.

Originally a subshed of Machynlleth's 6F depot, the building at Aberystwyth dates from 1938 and was closed by British Rail in April 1965, with ownership transferring to the VoR in 1969. Its renovation is part of a £2.2 million project, Wales to the World, which is transforming the site into a station
