FOUR items of memorabilia hurdled the £10,000 barrier in GW Railwayana's auction on March 16, led unsurprisingly by two nameplates, which were followed by a 168-year-old steam locomotive worksplate and a BR(W) station totem sign.
The nameplates were both from GWR engines, the first of which, from No. 6028, went for £16,000 after close of play, closely shadowed at £15,500 by from GWR Castle class No. 5063. In third place with a realisation of £12,000 was a Hawthorns & Co of Leith worksplate (works No. 138) from an 0-4-0PT built in 1856 for an Ayrshire ironworks and withdrawn in 1921.
