GMT, the acronym for Greenwich Mean Time, represents the “zero hour” standard, as designated by the Royal Observatory in London. Greenwich, England, earned its status as the point of 0 degrees longitude in 1884, chosen to aid in regulating train schedules. Today, as you travel the world, you either add or subtract hours from GMT to determine local time.
