Bringing greenery into your home has benefits – plants can improve wellbeing, and there's also the satisfaction that comes with tending them, says Guy Barter, chief horticulturist at the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS).
Research indicates that houseplants can improve your mood, reduce stress levels and increase productivity. Similarly, the physical benefits of indoor plants have been shown to reduce blood pressure, fatigue and headaches.
All of this sounds great, but many people don’t know that some houseplants are toxic to pets, so owners “need to be careful when selecting plants, especially if their pet has a tendency to nibble leaves”, says Jane Perrone, houseplant expert and host of gardening podcast On the Ledge.
